About us

The Self Advocate Coalition of Kansas (SACK) is a statewide advocacy group made up of adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, the majority of whom receive services through the Kansas Developmental Disabilities Service System. SACK encourages and teaches people to speak up for themselves and to obtain the highest possible level of independence.

WHAT SACK DOES

Advocacy

We work to improve the status of people with disabilities at all levels- in their everyday lives, in local communities, and the policies and systems that support them.

Training

We teach and empower people with disabilities to exercise their voice, live self-determined lives, and create change for all people in their communities and beyond.

Leadership and Service

SACK officers and members sit at the table on boards and committees and serve as leaders, making Kansas- and our world- a better, more inclusive place to live.

Outreach and Education

SACK self-advocates show up at partner and community events across the state of Kansas to spread the word about disability issues, civil rights, and advocacy.

OUR PRIorities

Expanding KanCare

SACK believes that healthcare for all is a basic human right. We support the full expansion of Medicaid and won't stop till everyone is covered!

Preventing Sexual Abuse & Violence

Too many people with disabilities are put in harm's way because they don't know their rights, lack sexual education, and live in social isolation. SACK is taking a stand against the victimization of people with disabilities.

Revving up the Disability Vote

People with disabilities have the potential of making up the largest voting block in our country. Our voice is powerful and we're here to let self-advocates know!
